New concept for event waste management
Falcon Cleaning & Support Services specializes in high-end commercial cleaning throughout the UK. The team offers event cleaning services at outdoor events all year round, keeps the venue clean before, during and after the event covering bars, food courts, trade stands, welfare facilities and back-of-house areas, as well as litter picking and waste disposal.
When approached by Falcon about a unique concept for waste management at events, Orwak Easi UK saw the potential to transform the way recycling is handled across the festival and events industry.
Bringing balers directly to events
Large-scale events generate substantial volumes of recyclable waste, which is traditionally transported offsite for processing. This method results in additional material handling, unnecessary logistics, increased expenditures, and elevated carbon emissions. Falcon Cleaning & Support Services wanted a different approach!
The owner Stuart had a vision to bring recycling equipment to the event and compact the waste and recyclable directly on site. The idea was to separate, compact and bale the materials at source, achieving more efficient and sustainable waste management.
Mobile recycling station
Orwak Easi UK eagerly took on the assignment and was excited to help turn Stuart’s vision into action. Together, the parties developed a prototype mobile recycling solution designed especially for the event industry. A trailer was equipped with
- 2 x Orwak Compact 3110 balers
- 1 x Orwak Compact 3115 baler
Cardboard, plastic and alu cans are common recyclables that are effectively compacted in the balers. The new waste solution was trialed at a Formula 1 event; a perfect opportunity to test the concept under real conditions! The trial demonstrated the significant operational and environmental advantages of processing recyclable materials on site:
- Minimized bulk waste logistics: Significantly reduced the movement of loose, uncompacted waste.
- Improved housekeeping and site cleanliness
