Easter holidays are just around the corner and it always results in a major surge in travel. Airport terminals and other transportation hubs like train- and bus stations experience peak passenger volumes. With higher foot traffic comes increased waste generation and the need for efficient, hygienic handling solutions.

Orwak’s automtic waste bin TOM helps maintain clean, organized public spaces. TOMs are often spotted close to food courts but they also serve at gates and lounges where travlers dispose of waste and recyclables, like bottles, after having a snack or meal or discarding empty beverage containers before boarding or when leaving the aircraft, bus or train.

Designed with smart, touchless operation and automatic compaction, TOM reduces waste volume at the source, minimizes service frequency, and supports a safer, more sanitary environment.

TOM has an extraordinary vision and when some one approaches, he politely opens the shutter automatically. Afterwards the shutter closes and the waste is compacted. When the terminal is quiet, TOM goes to sleep (energy saving mode), but as soon as a plane, bus or train arrives, the sensor detects movement from the travelers passing by and TOM wakes up, ready to serve.

The type of waste disposed of at transportation hubs are often light weight, containing a lot of air and compaction makes a remarkable difference in this context. As much as 10 bags in a standard waste bin can be reduced to just 1 with TOM. To encourage sorting at source, a second TOM allocated to collecting  recyclables, mainly PET bottles, can be placed at each location.

Innovative waste solutions like TOM help airports, bus and train stations maintain operational efficiency while advancing sustainability goals, keeping travel moving smoothly during even the busiest seasons of the year.
