UPROS in Slovenia was established in 2022 with the purpose of manufacturing and assembling gas-safe lights and control electrical cabinets for the Italian company Cortem Group. In addition to assembling these products, UPROS also supplies the same company with the glass used in its equipment. An Orwak baler improved the waste logistics both internally and externally.
Manufactures advanced equipment
Cortem Group designs and manufactures explosion-proof electrical equipment for areas with risk of explosion and fire is one of the major suppliers in Europe, as well as an important supplier globally. It serves sectors such as oil and gas, mining, chemical-pharmaceutical, shipbuilding, and the agri-food industry, where it is utterly important that the on-shore and off-shore applications meet the highest demands on quality and safety.
Incoming goods generate cardboard waste
UPROS’s production is in the village Volčja Draga (literally “Wolf Valley”) in the mountains close to the Italian border and the company receives a lot of incoming goods – raw materials and components – packed in cardboard boxes. Up until recently there was no compaction solution in place, and the loose und bulky packaging waste has been disposed of in a dumpster indoors and several bins outdoors. Since quality and safety are the hallmarks in the production process and for the finished products, it goes without saying that the selection of machinery in the factory must be in line with this.

Improved logistics and the working environment
The Orwak baler COMPACT 3120, recommended and supplied by our distributor Interzero Slovenia, has a relatively small footprint but just the right capacity to deal with the volumes of cardboard on site. 17 bales were produced the first 2 months of operation. It improves the logistics solution internally and externally.
The customer comments: “The best thing with the baler is gaining space”.
No need to walk all the way outside anymore, when the baler is installed in the production, where the empty packaging is generated. That also improves the working environment, since it is safer, more convenient and independent of weather conditions and the season to keep waste management indoors. In winter the backyard can be dark and slippery.
The WMC collection frequency and the overall number of waste transports are reduced thanks to the volume reduction. To go from loose packaging waste to compacted and baled recyclables is a sustainable choice and a more efficient and profitable waste management solution.
