Just in time for the peak season, Throw & Go – Orwak’s new more automated compaction solution for waste bags in 660 L bins – was installed by Orwak’s sister company EnviroPac at the busy 4-star hotel Union overlooking the wild and beautiful Geirangerfjord in Norway. Throw & Go compacts bulky bags at the push of a button delivering a wide range of operational advantages. Housekeeping saves time, storage space is used more productively, and waste transport and transport costs are reduced.
The Geirangerfjord area in Norway is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its wild nature, the snow-capped mountains surrounding the blue green pristine waters of the fjord, the mighty waterfalls and the picturesque villages climbing on the slopes create stunning scenery. The Geirangerfjord attracts between 700 000 and 1 million visitors per year including about 200 to 250 cruise ships docking in the fjord each summer.
The demand for accommodation is understandably high at this popular destination and Hotel Union Geiranger Resort & SPA, a family-owned establishment since 1891, offers striking views of the fjord and is a convenient base for exploring outdoor activities all year round. With 197 rooms, SPA, restaurants and bars on site, it is a large and frequented hotel in the area.
Big bulky bags of cleaning waste accumulate quickly during peak season. Storage space is limited and due to the remote location and narrow winding mountain roads, waste logistics is a challenge. Just in time for the summer, EnviroPac introduced and installed the brand new waste compaction solution FLEX 660 Throw & Go from Orwak at the Union!
Bags of cleaning waste contain a lot of air are effectively compacted in a standard 660 L bin. The Throw & Go concept means that compaction starts at the push of a button. To fulfil the safety requirements, the waste compactor operates in a cage. Housekeeping simply disposes of the bags through the open generous infeed, pushes the start button and walks away. The waste compactor runs a compaction cycle and is then ready for another load. This more automated solution saves time, tedious manual work and allows housekeeping to focus on the core business. The volume reduction saves valuable storage space on site as well as waste transport and transport costs. To reduce transport and thereby CO2 emissions is a sustainable choice in line with Hotel Union’s environmental strategy.
