Karena, Orwak’s distributor in Greece, is supporting local municipalities, where mayors are actively striving to improve their communities’ public spaces, in finding sustainable and effective recycling solutions. The Municipality of Alimos received “The Best City Gold Award” for smart recycling thanks to installing an Orwak baler at a school and turning waste into value there.
A key priority for the municipalities is creating clean, waste-free environments for both residents and visitors. For years Karena has focused on islands, where local authorities share the same vision: protecting nature while ensuring a clean environment for tourists and locals alike.
When it comes to cities, Karena has supplied POWER 3325 vertical balers from Orwak to several municipalities. One of them in the Attiki region recently received an award for their sustainability efforts!
The Municipality of Alimos installed one of 3325 balers in a school environment to collect and recycle waste materials – an opportunity to also educate young students in resource management and circular eco.
As a result of their hard work, the Municipality of Alimos won the Gold Award for “Smart Recycling: A paper press that turns school waste into a resource.” between a total of six awards at the “Best City Awards” held in Athens under the auspices of the Central Union of Municipalities in Greece (KEDE).
“The Best City Awards” highlight and reward innovative municipal projects that contribute to the creation of smart, sustainable, and economically viable cities, with a focus on quality of life and social cohesion. And as the recent awards demonstrate, the Municipality of Alimos is responding dynamically to major social challenges.
